*** A S C I I R E A D E R ***
Written in 1993 for AMOS Basic by Glenn N Babic
Hopefully you're reading this file through the very program it's about, my
wonderful ASCII Reader! To have got this far you must have at least figured out
how to load ASCII files so you probably understand the other commands as well.
They're displayed when the program is loaded so there's really little more that
I have to add here, but I will go through them anyway:
To call up a list of all available commands, simply press HELP. Press any key
after reading the information to return to the ASCII Reader.
Pressing ESC will exit the program and return to the editor.
Pressing L on the keyboard will bring up a file selector so you can choose an
ASCII file to view. The default path is in the Docs drawer where the document-
ation for all my programs on this disk should be. If you wanted to use this
program yourself, you could easily change this path in the procedure OPEN_FILE.
Once a file has been loaded, its name and size will be displayed at the top of
the screen. Also your position in the current file is written as a percentage
to the right of the file size and will change as you move through the file. If
for any reason a file is not loaded, an appropriate error message will be
displayed.
To print a file or just the current page to the printer, select P from the key-
board and you will be given the option to do so. Use the mouse to make your
desired selection.
The rest of the commands, which involve moving about the text file, are accessed
mainly via the keypad at the right of your Amiga keyboard (if you don't have
this then you probably have an Amiga 600. If so, don't get upset - you'll see
there are a few alternatives if you read on):
Home (key 7 on keypad). . . . . . . . . . . . . . view the top of the file.
End (key 1 on keypad) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . view the bottom of the file.
Pg Up (key 9 on keypad) . . . . . . . . . . . . . scroll up one page.
Pg Dn (key 3 on keypad) / SPACE BAR . . . . . . . scroll down one page.
UP ARROW (cursor key or key 8 on num. keypad) . . scroll up one line.
DOWN ARROW (cursor key or key 2 on num. keypad) . scroll down one line.
Well that's it for the controls. Before I go I should tell you that the when
the program loads up it automatically configures to NTSC or PAL monitors, and to
half meg or one meg machines. Also, any line longer than the screen width of 80
characters will automatically break and continue onto the following line.
That's about it, fellow Amosites. Bye for now...
